In the late 1990’s,
Southwest Kansas had no more live 30 minute local TV shows covering
the people and events in the Southwest region of the state. The full
live 30 minute local shows that had previously existed in the
1980’s turned into mostly pre-recorded segments that were far less
than 10 minutes.
In 2008, the High Plains Broadcasting, LLC
company was formed. The purpose of High Plains Broadcasting was to
bring Local TV, Local Information, and Local News back to Southwest
Kansas.
On February 25th 2010, the Federal
Communications Commission granted 5 TV station licenses to High
Plains Broadcasting.
After the 5 TV licenses were granted, High
Plains Broadcasting began construction on the Master Control Plant
needed to operate the TV licenses.
On October 1st, 2012, High Plains Broadcasting
placed the KDGL-LD Sublette transmitter on air and in the following
months placed the KDDC-LD Dodge City, KGCE-LD Garden City, KSWE-LD
Liberal, and KDGU-LD Ulysses transmitters on air. These 5
transmitters make up the TV23 KDGL Network.
Since the completion of construction, TV23
KDGL has carried several events LIVE on the air. Some of those
include: regional track meets at Dodge City, Pancake Day from
Liberal and our newest LIVE every weekday show: High Plains Today!
